What we Believe

We believe that, although the world contains much suffering, God is a God of love who made the universe and loves everybody in it.

The world we all live in contains many contradictions. On the one hand there is the sublime beauty of the earth and the awesome reality of space, there is truth and love, but on the other hand there is suffering, hate, death and division. The root cause of this contradiction is the breakdown of the relationship between God and humankind. We have abandoned God and so it seems to many people that he is distant and far away from our reality.

We believe that God has made the first move in restoring our friendship with him. Jesus has not only revealed to us the nature and purposes of God, but also through his death on Calvary's Cross and his resurrection from the dead, he has made it possible for us to have a new friendship with him. Through the cross Jesus paid the debt we have with God and God has reversed the most significant contradiction that our world faces.

The Bible is a unique record of God's relationship with the world. When the Bible is explained we hear God speaking to us. Through its pages we are struck by the profound nature of God's Commandments to those who desire to live in love and peace. We read of Israel's special journey of faith. We learn about Israel and their trials and tribulations faced as both a wondering and exiled people. From the prophets we see the burgeoning of new hope in the promised Messiah. Then in Jesus we see all these hopes and expectations fulfilled.

Today God's Holy Spirit gives new life to those who follow Jesus as Lord and Saviour. The Spirit helps us grow more like Jesus. We need the Holy Spirit's power to live for him.
